What are the differences between MS adhesive and traditional adhesive?

2025.02.25
There are significant differences in various performance aspects between MS adhesive and traditional adhesives.
The commonly used sealant adhesives in construction include polysulfide sealant (PS), silicone sealant (SR), polyurethane sealant (PU), and silane-modified sealant (MS), among others. The first three belong to traditional adhesives, while the last one is a new type of adhesive, namely MS adhesive.
Among the three traditional sealants, PS adhesive has a slow curing speed at low temperatures, is prone to aging and hardening, lacks durability, and has a strongly irritating odor. PU adhesive has high strength, good mechanical resistance, and corrosion resistance to media, but its curing speed is slow, and its resistance to heat and humidity and aging is poor, making it difficult to store for long periods. SR adhesive cures quickly and has high bonding strength, but its construction performance is poor, and it is prone to producing oily exudates that contaminate the surface of the structure.
Therefore, these three types of adhesives have certain limitations in today's building reinforcement industry.
MS adhesive is a new generation of structural adhesive developed in recent years. Through various tests and applications in engineering, MS adhesive has obvious advantages over traditional sealants in terms of chemical resistance, freeze-thaw cycling resistance, water immersion tensile bonding performance, and stain resistance.
MS sealant, as a member of the MS adhesive family, has a wide range of bonding capabilities and can bond with stones, concrete, ceramics, glass, and other materials. MS adhesive has excellent environmental performance and does not contaminate the surface of building materials during use. MS adhesive also exhibits good durability and can effectively seal and protect joints for a long time.
Nowadays, as our requirements for buildings become increasingly high, land transfer fees increase, and labor and machinery costs continue to rise. Prefabricated structures emerged under such circumstances. Therefore, as an important topic in prefabricated structures, the design of sealing joints and material selection require our widespread attention. Sealing joints, as the link between prefabricated structures, can directly affect the waterproof performance of prefabricated structures. Therefore, when implementing building industrialization, it is necessary to choose professional sealing materials.
As the most commonly used sealing material nowadays, MS adhesive needs to be familiarized and utilized by us.
Knowing their differences will undoubtedly make us more targeted when choosing sealants in the future.
